Joshua Thomas Rossiter, 31, was in the prisoner’s dock in Moncton provincial court after earlier pleading guilty to several charges dating back to early September including robbing a truck in Salisbury and robbery, assault with a shovel, stealing a travel trailer and possessing stolen property in Scoudouc.

“I apologize to the victims and everyone affected,” said the offender.

Defence lawyer Jason Dempsey told the court his client wants to go to Calgary when he gets out to be with his family and Rossiter echoed that.

“It’s just not working out in Moncton right now, I’ve got to go out there and change my life,” he said.

Rossiter has a criminal record that includes a prior conviction for robbery.

Judge Troy Sweet went with the joint recommendation for four years in prison and noted that he’d sentenced Rossiter in the past. He encouraged him to do better.

“Maybe moving to Calgary will change the scenery for you,” he said. “You’re slowly serving your whole life behind bars and you don’t want to do that.”

The judge told him to make better decisions and focus on his family.

“You’re the captain of your own ship,” he said.
